Oscar Eybers is a lecturer and researcher in the Unit for Academic Literacy at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. He is passionate about students’ development as novice writers, thinkers, and disciplinary members. Eybers describes his pedagogical approach as discursive and critical, aiming to cultivate students’ ability to think, write, and reason in a reflective and analytical manner. He also values Africa’s Indigenous Knowledge Systems and the ways in which local cultures can enrich and challenge conventional disciplinary knowledge. His work often bridges the gap between academic literacy and cultural identity, encouraging students to draw on their lived experiences as intellectual resources. Through his teaching and research, Eybers contributes to a more inclusive and contextually grounded academic environment.
