Professor Carol Chan is an Honorary Professor at the Faculty of Education, University of Hong Kong (HKU). She has served as Co-Convenor of the Strategic Research Theme on the Science of Learning at the University and is currently a Fellow of the International Society of the Learning Sciences (ISLS). Her research focuses on how people learn, examining the intersections of learning, cognition, and technology. She is internationally acclaimed for her research in computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) and knowledge building, advancing both theory and design, as well as teacher professional development for innovative learning environments. Her recent research also examines the synergy among collaboration, learning analytics, and generative AI.
Professor Chan is widely published in prestigious venues and is recognized as one of the world's top 2% most-cited scientists by Stanford University. She is an Associate Editor for leading journals in her field, including the Journal of the Learning Sciences and the International Journal of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning. She has served as an advisor and consultant for projects and centres in the United States, Canada, China, Japan, and New Zealand. Currently, she is an international member of the Cambridge Educational Dialogue Research (CEDiR) group and an advisory board member for the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP) and the Science of Learning in Education Centre (SoLEC) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
